Giving back ...
Some charities are near and dear to my heart. They employ many volunteers from the community, and in fact some parts of their organisations are entirely volunteer led. I would appreciate your consideration of these three worthy organisations and have included links for donation below.
Dress for Success
Dress for Success Hobart provides appropriate clothing and styling advice for women who may be seeking to re-enter the workforce after a period of unemployment, may need to dress formally for a range of other situations such as appearances in court, attending a funeral, returning to the community after a period of imprisonment or any other circumstances when access to our services would make a difference.
Dress for Success Hobart also provides a comprehensive career support program building skills, knowledge and confidence to assist women in achieving their employment or study goal. This includes CV and resume advice, job application tips, interview preparation and career support workshops.
We welcome all women, trans and gender diverse people comfortable in women’s spaces to offer a non-judgemental, empathetic and professional service that strives to empower and help reclaim confidence.
White Ribbon Australia
White Ribbon Australia is a part of a global social movement working to eliminate gendered violence. We strive for an Australian society where all women and children are safe.
White Ribbon is the world’s largest movement engaging men and boys to end men’s violence against women and girls, promote gender equality and create new opportunities for men to build positive, healthy and respectful relationships.
The White Ribbon Australia movement works through a primary prevention approach in communities, schools and workplaces across the country. Through our programs and campaigns, we engage with men to become active in the social change needed to stop men’s violence against women and children.
Black Dog Institute
1 in 5 of us will experience symptoms of mental illness in any given year. In Australia that’s around 5 million people. And roughly 60% of these people won’t seek help.
As the only medical research institute in Australia to investigate mental health across the lifespan, our aim is to create a mentally healthier world for everyone.
We do this through ‘translational’ research. Integrating our research studies, education programs, digital tools and apps, clinical services, and public resources to discover new solutions, foster connections and create real-world change.
Our partnerships with people with lived experience, federal, state and local governments, communities, schools, corporate Australia and others in the mental health sector enables us to drive evidence-informed change in mental health where it’s needed most.
